Copperbrush

Shrub type: Coniferous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big shrub grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for around 18 years. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has dozens of stocky, angular stems covered in very thick, rough, copper-coloured bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground with dozens of twigs that and are covered with copious amounts of small, perforated, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are white at the bottom and pale red with indigo lines at the top, delicate and sticky.

In mid-summer it produces thick bunches of large, indigo blossoms with asymmetrical petals. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like burning wood.

In late winter finger-like fruits ripen. The rubbery pale red skin is delicate and sweet and salty, and the slightly crunchy dark grey flesh is sweet and very juicy. The silver seed is large and sits at the top of the fruit.

It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
It out-competes most other plants for nutrients and light.
