Burgundy Cupflower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 2.0 feet (61 cm) tall. Its burgundy stems grow in bunches of 4 and are thin with a curved tip, and the miniature, gray-green leaves are 5 pointed with tattered edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the stem.

A single small flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 20 cm (7.9 inches) wide, with vivid red petals on the lower layer and purple petals decorated with purple dots on the inner layer. The central disk is silver. The flower head is shaped like a cup with 46 tightly layered, narrow petals. They are very delicate.

It has an intense scent that smells like rotting meat, and it has very little pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator.
