This brown moss is commonly found growing in tiny clumps In marshes, On trees, and In bogs.
It is short, growing up to 1 inch (3 cm) tall. It forms in sparse patches, and is very tough.
When mature, emerald spiral capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release hundred of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

It is bio-luminescent.
Their seeds have hallucinogenic properties.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
