It takes 3 months for the burgundy stems to mature, by which point they have tangled themselves into thick mats with a diameter of 2 cm (0.8 inches) and are smooth and rubbery.
The long, narrow, smooth leaves reach up to 6 inches (15 cm) in length. They are yellow with slate tips, and have tattered edges.
It is suitable for making baskets and the like
