Bloodfire Tree

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 62 feet (18.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a long and flexible, straight trunk covered in thick, waxy, mahogany-coloured bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The small bunches of branches are short and thick and are covered with sparse amounts of miniature, fan-like leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in violet and bronze varieties.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, blood red blossoms with cylindrical shaped petals. They are hardy and have the faintest scent that smells like fresh linen.

In late summer it produces tiny, oval fruit. The hairy beige skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is spicy and savoury, and the crunchy cream flesh is spicy and syrupy. The white seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are thick and spread across the surface, as well as underground, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
