Bronze Starflower

Flower type: Biennial (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This large flower grows up to 2.7 feet (81 cm) tall. Its yellow stem is wispy and splits into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the tiny, light green and cream leaves are finger-like with smooth edges. The leaves grow from the base and are the same length as the stem.

4 to 6 small flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 22 cm (8.7 inches) wide, with petals that are either copper or bronze, with a yellow center. The flower head is made up of many petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight star. They fall easily.

It has a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like new carpet, and it has excessive amounts of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects and is particularly attractive to bees.

The colour changes depends on whether the soil is acidic or alkaline.
