Copper-colored

This average-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 130 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has many branched, slanted stems covered in knobbly, brown-green bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of tiny, fan-like, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid bronze with aquamarine edges, strong and rough.

In mid-summer it produces hundreds of small, violet blossoms with fan-like petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have no scent.

In early autumn tiny wide fruits ripen. The smooth red skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy purple flesh is spicy and savoury and juicy. The green seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
