Copperfern

This enormous shrub grows up to 10 feet (3.0 meters) tall and lives for around 51 years. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous sturdy, straight stems covered in smooth, black with white speckled bark, and the wood inside is copper-coloured.

The branches trail down across the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small amounts of large, needle-like, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are purple on the sides and violet at the center, flimsy and waxy.

In late spring it produces hundreds of giant, copper blossoms with wide petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a strong scent that smells like new carpet.

In mid-autumn large spherical fruits ripen. The sticky light brown skin is peel-able and inedible, and the very soft purple flesh is salty and sticky. The brown seed is small and is in the centre of the fruit.
