Burgundy Willow

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 30 years. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, wonky stems covered in thin, knobbly, burgundy bark, and the wood inside is mahogany-coloured.

The branches are very short and thin that and are covered with handfuls of miniature, slender, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid slate with lime edges, light and smooth.

In late summer it produces copious amounts of large, amber flowers with circular petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They detach easily and have a delicate scent that smells like vanilla.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
