Burgundy Bluefruit

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 18 feet (5.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 39 years old. It is somewhat resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a knobbly, straight trunk covered in thin, waxy, burgundy and brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is light brown.

The numerous branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of huge, pleated leaves with tattered edges. The leaves themselves are light grey and grey.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of medium-sized, cream blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are very delicate and have a mildly strong scent that smells like perfume.

In early autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The fuzzy intense red skin is delicate and inedible, and the very soft sky blue flesh is bland and very dry. The caramel seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
