Azureberry

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 53 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, crooked trunk covered in thin, smooth, silver bark, and inside, the very dense wood is burgundy.

The small bunches of branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of miniature, spear shaped leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are generally blue.

In early spring, it produces thick bunches of giant, washed-out red blossoms with long, narrow petals. They are very delicate and have the faintest scent that smells like new books.

In mid-autumn it produces very large, long, straight fruit. The leathery azure skin is thin and edible when cooked; it is salty, and the soft amber flesh is very sweet and dry. The dark brown seeds are small and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between filled with undergrowth.
