Crimson Needleflower

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its stem)

This massive flower grows up to 15.0 feet (4.6 meters) tall. Its brown stem is very thick, and the giant, copper leaves are dark crimson and caramel on the underside and are needle-like with jagged edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

A single tiny flower sits at the end of each stem. The flowers are 117 cm (46.1 inches) wide, with solid black petals decorated with indigo dots and a cyan central disk. The flower head is made up of 4 petals in raised layers. They are sturdy.

It has a delicate scent that smells like rich perfume, and it has lots of pollen; it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird.
