Brown Petal Flower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.1 feet (33 cm) tall. Its lime green stem is thin, and the small, brown leaves are long, narrow with tattered edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

6 to 10 large flowers grow on alternate sides up the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with petals that are generally brown; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour. The flower head is an uncoordinated mess of up to 10 curved petals. They detach easily.

It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like wet dog, and it has excessive amounts of pollen; it can cause severe allergic reactions. It is a self-pollinator, but is also particularly attractive to insects.
