Blood Red

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 42 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in paper-thin, waxy, light gray bark, and inside, the very hard wood is brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with very large amounts of giant, needle-like leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to green at the top.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of small, pink blossoms with flame-shaped petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like rainy days.

In late summer it produces , long, tapering fruit. The rough blood red skin is peel-able and sweet and sour, and the soft dark orange flesh is salty and oily. The light brown seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
