Burgundy Sunflower

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its burgundy stem is thin, and the miniature, yellow leaves are very narrow and elongated with rounded edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from the base up to about halfway.

Two large flowers sit at the end of each stem. The flowers are 17 cm (6.7 inches) wide, with slate petals and an orange central disk. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. They are hardy.

It has a faint scent that smells like honeysuckle, and it has lots of pollen,but it does not cause many allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
