Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by winding itself around other objects and plants.)

This small fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in delicate, wrinkled, black with white speckled bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The large clumps of branches are short stubs and are covered with handfuls of miniature, oval-shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are found in slate, washed-out red and washed-out red varieties.

In early spring, it produces large amounts of giant, blood red blossoms with 5 pointed petals. They fall easily and have the faintest scent that smells like old shoes.

In mid-summer it produces small, perforated fruit. The leathery copper skin is thick and edible when roasted; it is sweet and savoury, and the very soft violet flesh is sweet and salty and dry. The beige seeds are large and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and grow straight down, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.

It is slightly resistant to fire damage.
