Clinging Hazelvine

This short flower grows up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. Its brown stem is wispy, and the miniature, moss green leaves are circular with wavy edges. The leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

Each stem splits 5 to 11 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 8 cm (3.1 inches) wide, with hazel petals that gradient shift to blood red on the outer edge. The central disk is brilliant orange. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight sphere. They fall easily.

It has a powerful scent that smells like freshly baked bread, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it does not cause any allergic reactions. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
