Burgundy Grass

Grass type: Biennial (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This small, burgundy grass grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The asymmetrical stalks grow in sparse patches that are strong.

When mature, the end of the stem eventually transforms into a tiny, lime tuft.

During the late summer, it produces lots of pollen, and after flowering, it is left with lots of giant grains.


It absorbs an exceptionally large amount of water each day.
It is suitable for making strong rope
It is often home to a particular bird species.
