This yellow-green moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas In heathlands, and In bogs.
It is average-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in extensive patches and they are exceptionally hardy, and is overwhelmingly rigid; it dislikes being stepped on.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the mid-autumn to release millions of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.
