Ambervine

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its stem)

This modest-sized shrub grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 118 years old. It is susceptible to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has numerous stocky, wavy stems covered in thick, wrinkled, brown bark, and the wood inside is black with white speckles.

The branches trail down towards the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of tiny, sickle shaped, leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are beige and amber, frail and covered in fine hairs.

In late summer it produces many bunches of tiny, light grey blossoms with wide petals. They are hardy and have a fairly strong scent that smells like petrol.

In mid-autumn tiny long, curved fruits ripen. The sticky light grey skin is peel-able and inedible, and the soft beige flesh is sour and sticky. The blood red seeds are small and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

It makes a distinctive sound when the wind blows through it.
