Copperleaf

This short leaf succulent grows up to 4 feet (1.2 meters) tall. The pleated stem is gray-green and olive, and is covered in dozens of rigid pastel red spines. The stumpy leaves are found in dull purple and pink varieties. Sparse amounts of them grow on wide, copper branches that are long and thick. The leaves are delicate, and easily come away when pulled.

It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a single flower with petals that are generally bronze; each flower tends to be a variation of this colour grows at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is largely flat with dozens of widely spaced narrow petals. It has a weak scent that smells like burning wood.

The leaf succulent's skin is tough, the beige flesh is soft, and the blood red sap is thin.
