Amaranthine Plum

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 78 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a stocky, crooked trunk covered in paper-thin, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The branches trail down towards the ground and are covered with large amounts of small, pleated leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are either red, or violet with caramel splotches.

In early spring, it produces copious amounts of giant, turquoise blossoms with 3 V-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have a scent whose strength depends on external factors, such as soil quality and rain frequency that smells like alcohol.

In mid-summer it produces small, pleated fruit. The soft cream skin is thin and inedible, and the soft violet flesh is bitter and syrupy. The brown seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is sturdy and difficult to uproot.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.
