Flower type: Biennial (Stores water in its leaves)

This small flower grows up to 3 inches (8 cm) tall. Its subtle red stem is very thick, and the small, lime green leaves are black on the underside and are needle-like with ripped edges. A pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Each stem splits 5 to 11 times; a single large flower grows at the end of each split. The flowers are 3 cm (1.2 inches) wide, with brown petals and a yellow center. The flower head is made up of dozens of petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.

It has a weak scent that smells like pineapple, and it has a fair amount of pollen; it can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by the wind, but is also particularly attractive to butterflies.

The trunk and branches are covered in large spikes.
It coexists peacefully with other plants.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
