Crimson Spearfern

This average-sized shrub grows up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) tall and lives for around 38 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has many knobbly, straight stems covered in thin, wrinkled, dark green bark, and the wood inside is pale yellow.

The branches trail down towards the ground with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with small bunches of huge, spear shaped, leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are found in amber and crimson varieties, rigid and rough.

It produces a thick sheet of large, muted red flowers with circular petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a weak scent that smells like cinnamon. In mid-summer it forms medium-sizedbeige, shelled seeds.
