Copperfern

This average-sized tree grows up to 17 meters (55.8 feet) tall and lives for centuries, with the oldest known specimen being around 330 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a knobbly, wavy trunk covered in fine, rough, copper-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is mahogany-coloured.

The abundance of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with small amounts of clammy, miniature, long, tapering leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are solid dark red or beige, with peach streaks.

In early spring, it produces a thick sheet of large, gold blossoms with finger-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a powerful scent that smells like fruity.

In late summer it forms medium-sized, caramel, shelled seeds.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
