This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing giant areas In heathlands, and In rainy mountain ranges.
It is average-sized, growing up to 4 inches (10 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they are exceptionally hardy, and is very durable; it can easily endure being trodden on.
When mature, emerald oblong capsules grow at the end of short, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early autumn to release millions of spores; it can cause severe allergic reactions.

It comes in 60 varieties.
It usually houses a colony of beneficial insects.
It is suitable for creating fine, soft textiles
