Violetberry
Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in its stem)This giant fruit tree grows up to 74 feet (22.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 35 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 81 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.
It has a long and flexible, angular trunk covered in delicate, ridged, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is pine-coloured.
The branches are short and thin and are covered with small amounts of miniature, slender, pointed leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are dark brown at the bottom and gold with brown patches at the top.
In early spring, it produces thousands of medium-sized, olive blossoms with slender, pointed petals with a bell-shaped floral cup. They are very delicate and have an overpowering scent that smells like fish.
In early autumn it produces small, spherical fruit. The waxy blood red skin is tough and edible when boiled; it is bitter and savoury, and the slightly crunchy violet flesh is salty and powdery. The black seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.
The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.
Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with patches of undergrowth between them.
It is suitable for creating flexible, durable textiles
