Violetberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This big fruit tree grows up to 36 feet (11.0 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 52 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a narrow, straight trunk covered in rough, light brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The tangled mess of branches trail down across the ground and are covered with copious amounts of small, asymmetrical leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are either purple or cream, with grey lines.

In early spring, it produces bunches of medium-sized, slate blossoms with flame-shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They are sturdy and have a soft scent that smells like old shoes.

In late summer it produces very large, pleated fruit. The smooth purple skin is thick and inedible, and the soft azure flesh is salty and sour and very juicy. The crimson seeds are large and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with clear space between them.

It is almost impossible to grow from cuttings.
