Crimson Water Lily

Flower type: Annual (Stores water in its leaves)

This short flower grows up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. Its red stems grow from the base of the plant in bunches of 6 and are wispy and straight, and split into numerous branching stems halfway up, and the giant, caramel or turquoise leaves are long, narrow with jagged edges. Many leaves grow along the entire length of the stem.

Several giant flowers grow along the length of the stem. The flowers are 6 cm (2.4 inches) wide, with crimson petals and a yellow center. The flower head is made up of 10 petals in raised layers. They are very delicate.

It has a delicate scent that smells like damp, and it has copious amounts of pollen; it can can cause allergic reactions. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is enjoyed by several specific types of insect.
