Amberfruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 5 feet (1.5 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in wrinkled, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is silver.

The branches are very short and thin and are covered with copious amounts of miniature, very thick leaves with serrated edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine at the bottom and amber with sky blue patches at the top.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, muted orange blossoms with broad, flat petals. They detach easily and have a strong scent that smells like cheese.

In mid-summer it produces , needle-like fruit. The soft lilac skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is bitter, and the crunchy deep blue flesh is sweet and spicy and syrupy. The blood red seed is small and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots form a tightly packed ball, and overall the tree is rigid and brittle.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
