Bloodvine

This short caudiciform grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall. The very narrow, elongated stem is red, and is covered in brittle blood red spines. The angular, slate trunk can grow to as much as 1 foot (30.5 cm) in diameter at the top. Its brown branches are short, rigid and upright and start growing halfway up the stem.

The sparse amounts of smooth-edged, slender, pointed leaves are found in red, red and pink varieties. They are resistant, but take little effort to detach.

It is steady-growing, taking 21 months to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with alternating petals of aquamarine and black, with a peach central disk, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of several petals in raised layers. It has a powerful scent that smells like sugar.

The caudiciform's skin is thin, the yellow flesh is rubbery, and the drab blue sap is thin.
