It takes 6 months for the copper stems to mature, by which point they can have a diameter of 2 cm (0.8 inches) and are rough and fibrous.
The thick, smooth leaves reach up to 2 inches (5 cm) in length. They are gentle blue and white, and have ripped edges.
During late spring, the bine produces thousands of small pale green flowers.
