Blueberry Tree

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Sheds its leaves in winter)

This short fruit tree grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 15 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 20 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in waxy, pine-coloured bark, and inside, the soft wood is pale brown-grey.

The numerous branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, circular leaves with ripped edges. The leaves themselves are found in caramel, gentle blue and silver varieties.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of small, turquoise blossoms with fan-like petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have a fairly strong scent that smells like soap.

In mid-autumn it produces small, finger-like fruit. The crispy sky blue skin is tough and inedible, and the slightly crunchy grey flesh is bitter and sticky. The dark green seeds are tiny and are located in the centre of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together densely, with the space between filled with undergrowth.

It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It can flourish even in standing water.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
