Bloodberry

Fruit Tree type: Deciduous (Grows upwards by clinging to almost any surface.)

This average-sized fruit tree grows up to 12 feet (3.7 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 38 years old. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a flexible, slanted trunk covered in fine, ridged, brown-green bark, and inside, the medium-dense wood is yellow-brown.

The small bunches of branches are tall, rigid and upright and are covered with large amounts of miniature, thin leaves with irregular edges. The leaves themselves are solid dark brown with pink dots.

In early spring, it produces many clusters of tiny, beige blossoms with heart-shaped shaped petals. They detach easily and have the faintest scent that smells like misty mornings.

In early autumn it produces very large, fan-like fruit. The rough azure skin is delicate and edible when cooked; it is spicy, and the slightly crunchy blood red flesh is sour and very dry. The bold yellow seeds are large and are dotted around on the skin of the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
