Golden Fruit Tree

This modest-sized fruit tree grows up to 16 feet (4.9 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 64 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a thick, angular trunk covered in very thick, ridged, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the light wood is white.

The branches are long, thin and wispy and are covered with copious amounts of tiny, broad, flat leaves with rounded edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine on the sides and gold at the center.

In early spring, it produces thousands of small, florescent yellow blossoms with sickle shaped petals with a trumpet-shaped floral cup. They fall easily and have a powerful scent that smells like rotten egg.

In early summer it produces , wide fruit. The smooth yellow skin is tough and edible when roasted; it is sour, and the crunchy aquamarine flesh is sweet and dry. The red seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with patches of undergrowth between them.
