Red Spike Cactus
Succulent type: Stem succulent (Stores water in its stem)This small cactus grows up to 9 feet (2.7 meters) tall. It splits at the base to form 6 stiff, pointed stems. Each stem is green, and is dotted with small deep yellow spines. The round body is red, and is covered in handfuls of rigid lime spines.
It is steady-growing, taking 4 years to reach maturity. Once mature, a handful of flowers, with each petal a slightly different shade of beige, grow at the top, reappearing every year. The flower head is made up of many petals in raised layers. It has a faint scent that smells like perfume.
The cactus's skin is thick, the bronze flesh is smooth, and the blue sap is thin.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
