Copperfern

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 11 years. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has numerous thick, wavy stems covered in thick, knobbly, burgundy and brown bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are short and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with very large amounts of giant, slender, pointed, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are either bold yellow or dark brown, with pastel red dots, hardy and covered in fine hairs.

It produces thousands of medium-sized, copper flowers with wide petals with a tube-like floral cup. They detach easily and have an intense scent that smells like fermented fruit. In early summer it forms smallhazel, shelled seeds.

It is said to be able to live for hundreds of years.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
It can survive a long time without water.
