Chocolate Fireball

Flower type: Annual (Grows along the ground or other low surfaces.)

This colossal flower grows up to 7.9 feet (2.4 meters) tall. Its orange stem is wispy and straight with a curved tip, and the huge, lime green leaves are needle-like with irregular edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and more leaves alternate on the stem from about halfway up, up to the flower head.

A single small flower sits at the end of the stem. The flowers are 66 cm (26.0 inches) wide, with blood red petals that gradient shift to hazel on the outer edge. The central disk is red. The flower head is shaped like a sphere made up of handfuls of tightly layered, round-tipped petals. They are very delicate.

It has a strong scent that smells like chocolate, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by a small species of bird, but is also visited by one species of insect in particular.

It is suitable for making baskets and the like
It aggressively steals nutrients from other large plants (but not each other).
It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
