Caramel Flower

This modest-sized flower grows up to 1.2 feet (36 cm) tall. Its silver stem is very thick and straight, and the large, moss green and caramel leaves are sickle shaped with tattered edges. Many leaves grow at the base of the stem, and a pair of leaves grow at the base of the flower head.

Two small flowers sit at the end of the stem. The flowers are 26 cm (10.2 inches) wide, with solid pale red petals and a purple central disk. The flower head is made up of 56 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight tube. They fall easily.

It has a powerful scent that smells like soap, and it has very little pollen. It is pollinated by insects , but is also visited by a small species of bird.
