Vinefruit Tree

This short fruit tree grows up to 8 feet (2.4 meters) tall and lives for up to 30 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 81 years old. It is not very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in very thick, cracked, gray bark, and inside, the light wood is black with white speckles.

The branches are long and slender and are covered with small bunches of small, spear shaped leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are orange-yellow with brown tips.

In early spring, it produces several medium-sized, amber blossoms with broad, flat petals. They are sturdy and have the faintest scent that smells like faeces.

In late autumn it produces , finger-like fruit. The fuzzy olive skin is delicate and edible when roasted; it is bitter and spicy, and the crunchy blood red flesh is sweet and syrupy. The cream seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots spread far and go deep underground, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with clear space between them.
