Caramel

This short fruit tree grows up to 7 feet (2.1 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 50 years old. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has a sturdy, straight trunk covered in fine, wrinkled, yellow-brown bark, and inside, the hard wood is black.

The excessive amount of branches are very short and thick and are covered with small amounts of miniature, pleated leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are either caramel or turquoise, with cyan streaks.

In early spring, it produces hundreds of giant, purple blossoms with fan-like petals. They are hardy and have a strong scent that smells like fruity.

In mid-autumn it produces tiny, long, narrow fruit. The soft silver skin is stretchy and edible when cooked; it is sweet, and the slightly crunchy dull purple flesh is spicy and juicy. The intense red seed is tiny and sits at the top of the fruit.

The roots are shallow and widely spread, and overall the tree is rigid and weak, and breaks apart easily.

Forests of this species feature trees spaced far apart, with grassy ground between them.
