Emerald

Succulent type: Caudiciform (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This short caudiciform grows up to 2 feet (61.0 cm) tall. The finger-like stem is emerald, and is covered in lots of fine, lime, hair-like spines. The angular, hazel trunk can grow to as much as 2 feet (61.0 cm) in diameter at the top. Its gray-green branches trail down towards the ground and start growing halfway up the stem.

The sparse amounts of toothed-edged, wide leaves are grey and cream. They are flexible, and are very difficult to pull away.

It is very slow growing, taking 13 years to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a single flower with azure petals and a red central disk grows at the top, reappearing after 5 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is shaped like a bowl with 4 raised, round-tipped petals. It has a weak scent that smells like sugar.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the blood red flesh is waxy, and the dull purple sap is thin.

It spreads easily and often blanket large areas.
The leaves are high in natural sugars.
It is suitable for creating tough, hard-wearing textiles
