Bloodfruit Tree

Fruit Tree type: Coniferous (Stores water in the thickened base of its stem)

This enormous fruit tree grows up to 60 feet (18.3 meters) tall and lives for up to 25 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 56 years old. It is very susceptible to disease and insect infestation.

It has a flexible, straight trunk covered in thick, waxy, brown bark, and inside, the dense wood is burgundy-brown.

The small clumps of branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with copious amounts of small, cylindrical leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are found in blood red, indigo and olive varieties.

In early spring, it produces many balls of medium-sized, purple blossoms with shield-shaped petals. They are sturdy and have a delicate scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In mid-autumn it produces small, circular fruit. The smooth red skin is thick and sour, and the soft olive flesh is salty and sticky. The cream seeds are large and are scattered throughout the fruit.

The roots are fine and grow in a large web, and overall the tree is sturdy and rigid.

Forests of this species feature the trees packed together, with the space between them filled with thick undergrowth.
