Bluevine

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 91 years. It is very resistant to disease but is susceptible to destructive insect infestation.

It has several long and flexible, straight stems covered in smooth, dark green bark, and the wood inside is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright with hundreds of twigs that and are covered with large amounts of small, long, tapering, leaves with smooth edges. The leaves themselves are solid dull green with blue streaks, rigid and waxy.

In late summer it produces many tiny, cyan blossoms with 2 circular shaped petals. They fall easily and have a delicate scent that smells like a newborn baby.

In late winter large 5 pointed fruits ripen. The fuzzy silver skin is tough and spicy, and the slightly crunchy olive flesh is sweet and syrupy. The slate seeds are tiny and are bunched at the bottom of the fruit.
