Cactus Fruit Tree

This large fruit tree grows up to 25 feet (7.6 meters) tall and lives for up to 20 years, with the oldest known specimen being around 55 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has a stocky, angular trunk covered in delicate, knobbly, dark brown bark, and inside, the flexible wood is burgundy-brown.

The branches are short, rigid and upright and are covered with small bunches of large, perforated leaves with toothed edges. The leaves themselves are a shade of emerald that gradient shifts to light grey at the top.

In early spring, it produces many small, magenta blossoms with spear shaped petals. They fall easily and have an intensely strong scent that smells like apple.

In early winter it produces , needle-like fruit. The sticky white skin is tough and salty, and the slightly crunchy vibrant purple flesh is savoury and juicy. The lime seeds are tiny and are bunched at the top of the fruit.

The roots grow as a near perfect mirror of the tree above, and overall the tree is sturdy, flexible, and difficult to uproot or break.

Forests of this species feature well-spaced trees, with patches of undergrowth between them.
