This copper moss is commonly found blanketing large areas In moorlands, and On trees.
It is big, growing up to 7 inches (18 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they overwhelm an area rapidly, and is overwhelmingly resistant; it is very difficult to kill.
When mature, emerald shield-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the late autumn to release millions of spores; it can cause allergic reactions.

Several parts of the tree have medicinal properties.
It is suitable for creating strong, durable textiles
Once on fire, it burns very quickly.
