This burgundy moss is commonly found blanketing medium-sized areas In bogs, On trees, and In damp forests.
It is short, growing up to 2 inches (5 cm) tall. It forms in thin clumps and they are slow to spread and grow, and is overwhelmingly flimsy; it burns easily in strong sunlight.
When mature, emerald teardrop-shaped capsules grow at the end of elongated, lime green sporophytes, eventually opening up during the early summer to release dozens of spores.

It is possible to grow it from cuttings.
It is suitable for making paper
It only grows on the most fertile lands.
