Bloodbrush

Shrub type: Deciduous (Stores water in its leaves)

This small shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for around 15 years. It is very resistant to disease and destructive insect infestation.

It has several wide, straight stems covered in knobbly, yellow bark, and the wood inside is brown.

The branches are very short and thin with dozens of twigs that and are covered with thick bunches of miniature, fan-like, leaves with wavy edges. The leaves themselves are aquamarine at the bottom and blood red with light grey streaks at the top, sturdy and smooth.

In mid-summer it produces large amounts of small, lilac flowers with umbrella-shaped shaped petals. They are hardy and have a scent that varies in strength that smells like new carpet.


It grows well in the sun and full shade.
