Azure Spineflower

This average-sized caudiciform grows up to 29 feet (8.8 meters) tall. The thick stem is lime green, and is covered in handfuls of rigid indigo spines. The stumpy, brown trunk can grow to as much as 29 feet (8.8 meters) in diameter. Its moss green branches trail down towards the ground.

The wavy-edged, kidney-shaped leaves are either turquoise or grey, with silver patches. They are tough, and do not detach easily.

It is quick growing, taking 5 months to reach maturity. Once mature, and only under the right conditions, a handful of flowers, with solid azure petals and a muted purple central disk, grow at the top, reappearing after 9 years, but only when the conditions are right again. The flower head is made up of 19 petals; the lower layer of petals are flat, while the upper layers form a tight bowl. It has a scent that varies in strength that smells like an ocean breeze.

The caudiciform's skin is thick, the sky blue flesh is smooth, and the orange sap is thin.
