Brownleaf

This short shrub grows up to 1 foot (30.5 cm) tall and lives for decades, with the oldest known specimen being around 195 years old. It is very resistant to destructive insect infestation but susceptible to disease.

It has dozens of knobbly, wavy stems covered in thick, cracked, brown bark, and the wood inside is pale brown.

The branches trail down across the ground with thousands of twigs that and are covered with handfuls of huge, asymmetrical, leaves with jagged edges. The leaves themselves are slate on the edges and brown at the center, resilient and sticky.

It produces copious amounts of small, indigo flowers with pleated petals with a tube-like floral cup. They fall easily and have an overpowering scent that smells like meat. In midwinter it forms largecopper aril (seeds with fleshy covers).
